Available modules on SIA servers
Basic Server
One computer and the operating system needed for the other modules.
Basic Gateway
This module implements basic functions like NAT, routing and firewall.
Advanced Gateway
This module is recomended for medium and large networks or for networks that use the Internet access intensively. It provides advanced functions necessary for traffic control at IP level:
- IP packets filtering By implementing access lists, it is possible to allow or deny access to Internet resources for the users in the local network.
- IP packets prioritisation Each IP packet going through the gateway is assigned a priority. The higher the priority, the sooner the packet will traverse the gateway. If the priority is lower, the packet is held in a waiting queue, until all the higher priority packets are sent.
- bandwidth limitation and traffic shaping A maximum and a minimum value of the transfer speed can be established for each user in the local network, for upload and download data transfer. All the above restrictions can be imposed selectively, by source IP address, destination IP address, source port and destination port. It is possible to create groups of users, so that the same set of rules can be applied to users that have the same requirements and restrictions.
Basic E-mail Server
This module offers all the functions of an usual e-mail system:
- SMTP relay for taking over and transmitting e-mail messages
- POP3 server for reading messages.
Anti-Virus scanning for e-mail server
The anti-virus scanning is performed on the central servers of Smart Internet Appliances, so that the messages containing viruses do not reach the e-mail server installed in the customers premises.
Anti-Spam Filter for e-mail server
The anti-spam filtering is done by the senders IP address, which is being looked up in a black list. The filtering is on the central servers of Smart Internet Appliances, so that the spam messages do not reach the e-mail server installed in the customers premises.
Webmail interface
Allows access to the e-mail boxes through a web interface, similar to those, very familiar to all of us, from Yahoo! Mail or Gmail.
VPN Server
Can join two or more local networks, from different branches of the same company, in a big virtual network by establishing a virtual private network (VPN) over the Internet. An SIA VPN server is required for each local network. It also allows individual remote computers to access the resources from the local network by establishing a VPN link between the remote computer and the SIA server.
FTP server
Allows easy file sharing and file transfer over the Internet or in the local network through FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
File Server
Allows easy file sharing and file transfer between Windows workstations. The SIA file server acts as shared drive in the local network.
Web server
Allows the hosting of one or more web sites that can be accessed from the local network or from the Internet.
